Born and raised in Canada, Tuan Amith has been with Houston A+ Challenge since moving to Houston in 2007 from California, where he worked as a web and database consultant for the Asian Pacific American Legal Center. He holds a B.S. (cum laude) and M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Houston. He has been a member of the Association of Computing and Machinery since 2003 and the American Medical Informatics Association. He is currently working on a PhD in Bioinformatics at the University of Texas Health Science Center.
Tania Arzola provides expert logistical and administrative support to A+UP and Houston A+ Challenge. She started with Houston A+ as a part-time intern in her senior year of high school, through the Co-Op Program at the Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice High School. She is now a part-time college student at Houston Community College, pursuing a career in Business Management. She previously worked for two years as an Assistant Supervisor of a telemarketing company on behalf of Bank of America.
Imelda Cardoza was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas and attended the former Pan American University, now The University of Texas at Pan Am. Imelda worked as a human resources administrator with the University of Houston for 20 years, most recently as Supervisor of Employment and Employee Relations. She joined Houston A+ in April 2001 from River Oaks Elementary, after serving two years as a lecturer in the after school program and five years as the school’s vanguard program administrative assistant.
Donna is a native Houstonian. She has seven years of experience as an executive administrative assistant in Houston ISD, starting at Westside High School as a clerk for three Deans, then promoted to school secretary, then in the district's West Region Office. Donna also has worked as a manager for Hallmark, Inc. stores and as an administrative assistant for a large investment banking/brokerage firm.
Terrie comes to Houston A+ Challenge from Professional Packaging Systems, where she was operations manager for more than nine years. She was also a co-director for an annual writing retreat for teachers sponsored by the New Jersey Writing Project in Texas. Terrie is currently pursuing a degree in computer graphics from the University of Houston and also owns Metropolitan Meals, a catering/personal chef business.
Assistant Director of External Affairs
Joining the External Affairs team in 2013, Kat brings a wealth of experience in communications, events and development and a passion for engaging the community in support of better educational opportunities for public school students. As Director of Communications and Events for Aim High, a San Francisco-based education nonprofit, Kat leveraged strong local support to strengthen Aim High’s national reputation as a thought leader in summer learning, build the organization’s branding and social media strategies, and coordinate gala events that raised more than $1 million in total. Kat also has served as Operations Manager for Citizen Schools, where she managed finances, human resources, technology and talent acquisition functions for the Texas region, and spent two years in the classroom as an AmeriCorps Teaching Fellow for Citizen Schools at Kennedy Middle School in Redwood City, CA. She holds a B.A in Media Studies from Pomona College.
